MATIC Supply Data

Understanding the MATIC circulating supply is essential for evaluating the token's market capitalization and potential price movements. Here is a comprehensive breakdown of Polygon's token supply data.

Current Supply Statistics

  • Circulating Supply: ~10.61 Billion MATIC
  • Total Supply: 10 Billion MATIC
  • Max Supply (MATIC): 10 Billion (fully diluted)
  • POL Supply: Starts at 10 Billion, inflationary (1–2% annually)

MATIC Token Distribution

The original MATIC token distribution at launch was as follows:

  • Team: 16%
  • Advisors: 4%
  • Staking Rewards: 12%
  • Foundation: 21.86%
  • Network Operations: 23.33%
  • Launchpad Sale (Binance): 3.8%
  • Private Sale: 2.09%
  • Ecosystem: 16.92%

MATIC Fundraising History

Polygon raised approximately $5.6 million through the sale of 1.9 billion MATIC tokens at a price of $0.00263 per token in April 2019 during the Binance Launchpad IEO. Prior to this, the project conducted a private sale round. Total funds raised across all rounds were used for network development, marketing, and ecosystem growth.

MATIC Staking Rewards

MATIC tokens can be staked to earn rewards. Validators and delegators on the Polygon PoS network receive staking rewards paid in MATIC. The current staking APY varies but has historically ranged from 5–20% depending on the amount of staked MATIC and network conditions.

Token Burn Mechanism

Polygon introduced a fee burning mechanism similar to Ethereum's EIP-1559. A portion of the base transaction fees on Polygon PoS is burned, creating deflationary pressure on the MATIC supply. This burn mechanism helps offset the inflationary effects of staking rewards.

POL Supply vs MATIC Supply

When MATIC migrates to POL, the initial supply will be equivalent: 10 billion POL. However, POL introduces an inflationary emission of approximately 1–2% per year to fund validator rewards and the Polygon ecosystem treasury. This means POL does not have a hard cap of 10 billion tokens over time.
